(Dog Obedience is Good)

Private dog obedience instruction at your convenience.

You can have a well mannered dog at your convenience.  I only teach private lessons. I meet with you when it's good for you, where it's good for you.  I work with you and your dog, one on one.  It's that simple!

I can video tape our sessions so you can review at any time!

Specializing in on-lead obedience and behavior modification.

Starting at 8 weeks old.           Work with any age dog.

  Handling available.

Why Obedience?

In my opinion, a dog is much like a child.  They come to us not knowing how to behave.  It is up to us as "pet parents" to teach them the manners they need to learn.  Some dogs are very possessive of their toys, food, and/or resting places.  Possessiveness is often a form of dominance aggression, and diminishes when the owner asserts/reasserts leadership of the dog. That is why obedience is a must.

On-lead Obedience & Behavior Modification offered as a "package deal"!

I offer a comprehensive package that includes on-lead obedience and behavior modification.  I meet with you two (2) times a week, for six (6) weeks, totaling 12 sessions.  This is the ideal, of course.  If you and your dog need more time with me, then that is arranged at no extra cost. I am confident that, if you practice with your dog as I show you, you will see positive results in four (4) sessions.  Within two (2) weeks your dog will be better mannered. Understand, once you become a client, you are a client for the life of your dog.  If you ever have a problem with anything we have covered in our formal classes, you can contact me and we'll have as many sessions as it takes to get the problem resolved.

On-lead obedience includes heel, sit, sit/stay, down, down/stay, stand, stand/stay, recall (come), and finish (return to heel position after recall).  All commands are taught in voice and hand signals.  The dog is also taught not to pull on the lead, even when not under a "formal" command.  If you desire to learn the commands in another language, I can do that, too.

Behavior modification is eliminating or reducing undesirable behaviors, and putting more acceptable behaviors in their place.  This includes, but is not limited to, crate training, housebreaking, agressiveness, chewing, nipping and biting.  I work with you to help you obtain the best dog you can have.

About the Trainer...

Robyn Werhan began training dogs in obedience and modifying their behavior in 1980 in Tempe, AZ, where she was raised.  She moved to Flagstaff in 1990.  In 1994 she began competing in AMBOR* sanctioned obedience trials, earning a CD (Companion Dog Title) and CGC (Canine Good Citizen Award) with her partner, Cossack.  That same year she and Cossack joined the Flagstaff Kennel Club and their K-9 Drill Team.  Since then, they have been in numerous programs, educational demonstrations and parades.  In 1998 she joined the Delta Society and currently volunteers as a Pet Partner, providing AAA/T (Animal Assisted Activities/ Therapy).   *The American Mixed Breed Obedience Registration

My Personal Philosophy.

Pets are not disposable.     A dog is a family member.     A well mannered dog is a good citizen.     A well behaved dog is an asset to the community.     There is no reason not to train a dog to behave.     When you teach a dog what is expected of them, everyone is much happier.     There is no such thing as a "bad" dog, only an untrained dog.                 There is no excuse for animal abuse.

A balance of positive and negative reinforcement is used to teach the dog.  All my training methods are proven physically and psychologically sound.

What Else?

I donate 10% of the fee paid for training, in the dog owners name, for Humane Society and Rescue dogs within 6 months of adoption.

Have more than one dog? I offer a multi-dog discount as well.

I understand the value of an obedient and well-mannered dog. To help you afford training I have a payment plan available.

Thanks much for stopping by!

An update about my "work partner"...

This is some sad news to share...

Cossack passed over the Rainbow Bridge December 30, 2005.  This is very difficult to write.  She was a hard worker and was my work partner for over 12 years.

Since then I have adopted two new family members from the Coconino Humane Society.  Lily and Daisy have joined my "work force" as my new work partners.  I feel the best way to honor Cossack and her 14 years with me is to have partners who are as well mannered as she was.  Lily, a 3 year old American Pit Bull, was surrendered to the Humane Association because her family was moving and didn't want to take her.  Daisy, a 7 week old American Bull Dog (?) (She turned out to be Black Lab/Australian Cattle Dog/Pit mix...), was the soft spot in my heart that my kids found.  She, too, was adopted from the Humane Association.

You may see Lily and Daisy working with me regularly over at Bushmaster Park.  They have become a wonderful addition to my work force.  I invite you to intorduce yourself if you happen to see us.  (Please be respectful and wait if I happen to be working with a client.)  I look forward to many more happy years with my girls.
